Bongo Fury

My first post, at last.
I have a 1995 diesel Bongo, works great just sorting a few niggles!
i have the owners manual and read bout the The hold function for the auto gearbox, however wwhen i press the button on the gearlever nothing happens and no light on the dash, any ideas on what to check first?

Welcome. Just in case this is the issue, there are two buttons. The large upper one is to prevent inadvertently moving the stick shift to L or R positions. The smaller one below it is the HOLD button. Hopefully you're pressing the correct button. Assuming you are, does the engine note and RPM change when you press it?

If not flashing ,you have pressed the button on side of gear selector .press again and will go .that button will drop down one gear .used on hills

Have tried the hold button at varying speeds,cannt tell any difference in engine tone, dosnt change down,ill try a good hill and try it again! Still no hold light

try the drive test as said earlier and listen,
the bulb may have been removed/covered/disconnected to hide the fact that there is a fault on the system, the hold light has several functions one of which is to tell you there is a fault on the gearbox.

Ill check the dash bulb just in case!

Hi, got a problem along similar lines myself, potentially a moisture problem though I think, when it rains, the Rev counter will behave erratically at first, then fail altogether. The fault light flashes, and I'm pretty sure it goes in to limp mode. When the road dries up, it clears itself, just don't know where to look for the problem?

Don't worry about where to post anything, we're a friendly rabble and don't fuss too much.

Others with more techie knowledge than me will be along with ideas, but I recon this could be the alternator playing up, possibly when water gets splashed into it, or it might just be waving goodbye.

Thankfully easy to do and not stupid £££.

Or the sensor on the front of the crank shaft.

Hi Bob, many thanks, it's the 2.5 diesel,on an N reg, this is the last niggle I've got to sort, done the dreaded drop links, anti roll bushes also were done, rear brake shoes replaced, some welding done, fingers crossed for the MOT next sat

Good luck for MoT, I'm guessing alternator, but anyone else got an idea?

i think you nailed it bob, alternator should be tested. if this appears ok have a look at the earth straps on the batteries and the one that goes from the gearbox to the body then the engine to the body, all of these should be removed cleaned and refit, if its still doing it after that lot try the little speedo corrector box behind the clocks, this alters the speedo pulse from the original kph to mph via a little magic box of wizardry, these are known to give problems and need replacing.
