240v hook up

I have recently bought a 1996 Bongo and need to fit a 240v hook up but I am unsure where the best place on the bodywork to cut the hole?
It is a conventional layout inside with a gas hob and sink along the drivers side, can anyone advise?
Cheers
Max

Welcome aboard Max.
If you're not in an immediate rush to fit the hook up plug I would try and get along to a couple of Meets and chat to owners who already have it fitted.
Bongonaughts are always happy to show their equipment and discuss good v bad once in real world use.
I'm guessing you will also want to add mains 13a sockets and perhaps a charger to top up your leisure battery and a method of running the fridge off mains so worth taking time to get it right, and hopefully Geoff will have some advice soon.
If you're looking at camping over winter and need heating a lead like this will sort you out for now:

Underneath. The cable can be fed through the rear light fittings. Don't go hacking holes in the bodywork. Maypole sell a right angled EHU socket with built in cap, part no. MP594B. Saw one first on a mate's T4. When mine was converted it was attached to the towbar behind the offside fog-lamp bracket.

No problem, I hope you agree it's the way to go. Drove round Scotland in the summer in some appalling weather but the socket stayed dry inside its cover, so it clearly does the job.

An interesting connector.
I used the standard in line connector with a 2 way shed rcd box mounted behind the starter battery.
allows for entrance of cable via front grill.
eg

could easily be used in a rear /side kitchen box

Hi Markas
I've checked out the Maypole site as you suggested, there are several MP594B sockets, I need your advice on which one, would it be the 240v version that I require?
Many thanks

I can only find one with that part number, but if you're looking to hook up th UK mains you will need 230 or 240v.
Same thing for practical purposes.

What Bob said...
Here's a link to one on the 'bay:

They keep them in stock at my local camping accessories shop so shouldn't be too hard to find.

Hi Markas
Bob's link to e-bay is the one I looked at, thanks for your input, I think that's me sorted!

Anyone know if you can get a connector that mounts in the same way a towbar connector does. I have a towbar mounted step that is pre-drilled for two towbar sockets. One is in use for the purpose intended but the other is sitting there with holes ready for mounting. I'd like a really simple plug in that allows hookup to an rcd protected 13amp socket in the van. If nothing suitable exists, i guess the next best option is to drill and fit the Maypole one Bob has flagged up.

I recon you could probably make a wee bracket from a bit of sheet ally or similar.
