Hi Guys,

I had a leaking hose under drivers door, metal pipe had eroded where it joins a rubber pipe.
Spotted quite early on (hopefully) got taken to a local garage explained that i was not trying to be patronising but asked if anyone had knowledge with refilling the coolant because of air locks. One guy said he thought i knew what i was on about but looked bemused, any way they fixed pipe but i wanted to know if anyone knows a way of checking there is no air locks before i venture to far.

Sorry its a bit long winded, any help would be appreciated

I fear there's no easy answer or short cut here. If you're uncertain they bled it properly then it'll need to be bled again for peace of mind. Were they given written instructions to follow on exactly how it should be done?

Which engine do you have? The 2 ltr petrol is much like any other car.

As for finding out if it was done properly the only real way is likely bleed it again, but you could ask the mechanic who did it to explain his method and see if it sounds right.

Just asking how long it took will give a clue - 5/10 mins it ain't right, 40 mins it might be.

Its a 2.5 diesel, chap said it took around an hour to do.
I have seen a few you tube vids and they seemed to take longer, but he did mention that i had two radiators and that it may be worth bypassing and getting rid of rear one at some stage if it needed to come in again.
He also mentioned that he went for a spin approx 15mile, to test it.

I was wandering is there anything i could look out for? perhaps check level when cold let it tick over on drive until hot and see if any level changes from top tank ??

Hmm... Two radiators is a new one on me.

Just inside the grill you have the air con condensor and then the engine radiator, looks like two radiators but not, or could he mean the rear heater?

But what would be the point of removing it?

Do keep an eye on the coolant level, but checking it and warrming it up won't reveal an air lock and might blow boiling coolant in your face.

Just left it on driveway running for half hour, gets to normal temp, heat blowing through back heater.
But checked large hose coming out bottom of radiator (passenger side) and that was still cold?

Sorry for all questions but im in a bit of a panic, i dont fancy draining and refilling myself, and struggling to find any one local who i would trust

just means the thermostats not opened,most likley because its not got hot enough

How did you work that out Oh Great One Can't seem to see his location in profile or posts on this thread - probably need to go to Specsavers!

the 2 radiators hes prob refering too may be the heater matrix, front and rear.

if its run on the drive for a good while itll prob be fine. check the coolant level once its cooled down, set it too the high mark on the exp tank, run it again to hot if you need to be sure, then let it cool down again and check the level again, it should be the same. if its very nearly the same it may just need a very small top up but dont worry unless the level has dropped more than an inch or two.
