Reddit! Reddit!

Yesterday the Bongo Fury and Bongoland websites, including this forum, were subjected to something called the "Slashdot Effect". This lead to the site getting slower and slower until it was eventually stone dead. This happened between 1538 and 2103 on Wednesday 2nd November.
The Slashdot Effect occurs when a popular website links to a smaller website leading to a massive increase in traffic. Sometimes this is intentional, other times it is just a consequence of too much attention.
The problems yesterday were eventually traced to a discussion on the highly popular Reddit website. Reddit is a huge discussion group with many millions of members. A discussion was started on the topic of "What Vehicle Would You Absolutely Not Buy....." and eventually, because of the "ridiculous name", the Mazda Bongo came under investigation. Then it was pointed out that "they even have an owners club and a website!" and over they came, in their hundreds, to see what those crazy Bongo people were up to. Eventually they constructed a song ("they did the Bash, they did the Bongo bash"), and, amusing it may have been, but the Bongo Fury website went down in a puff of smoke!
One of the contributors got in contact to apologise, and everything got sorted in the end. But who would have thought that we would be so popular!
