Cabin Heater / Night Heater

Hi All

I keep toying with the idea of fitting a night heater of some sort such as the PROPEX or EBERSPACHER type units and came across these on ebay.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-Set-Univer ... 0011.m1850

There seem to be quite a few of these about. Now I know this is likely a Chinese knock offs and are probably rubbish but just wondered if anyone has an knowledge of them at all.

So tempted at the price given that the real thing can be £500+
But then i think there will be a reason its so cheap!

Cheers
Ian

Are they the Chinese copy of the Russian type of heaters; the Planar ones? The UK stockist does them for £430. These do look tempting and I was going to get one before Christmas, wonder how reliable they are, be interested too if anyone has fitted it. Post 26 provides caution:

Bear in mind import duty + VAT + fee for collecting taxes can add up to a fair whack. :(

Good point though it appears quite a lot of gear manages to get through without attracting further charges from HMRC.....bit of a lottery. I am tempted given much of brand marked gear is made in the same place in China.

I've been looking at these as well but know I won't have a chance to fit one for a while. Would be keen to hear how you get on if you go for it.

PS, I've also seen second hand Eberspachers and the like going on ebay - not sure if they might be a better bet?

Thanks for all the replys

Seems to be an interesting subject and not a product one I am going to jump in on with out some research first.
The Wild camping link looks useful and will have a good read of that.

Never heard of the Planar ones so will take a look at those as well.

Be interested to hear if anyone takes the plunge but as with eelblady, may be a while before i have chance to to fit one.

All might be made in China but are they all made to the proper manufacturers quality?

Im interested too, i wonder how available spare parts are ? Especially normal service parts.
The genuine webast/eberspachers go for silly money on ebay used, most of them are incomplete kits to, when you add on all the extra bits you need to buy to get it usable it can end up not so much of a good buy.

Don't know if you're still interested but there's actually a Facebook page dedicated to the chinese ones people have purchased giving reviews, advice for fitting and best sellers to buy through etc.

https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q= ... ts%20sales.

That's the link, if that doesn't work then search - chinese diesel vehicle air heaters

:D

It's a helpful page, you do have to sift through a lot of rubbish to get the info you want unfortunately.
The main issues I've noticed is you don't always get quite whats pictured on the ad. Such as the controllers, a lot of them picture and LCD screen but come with a manual temp control dial type.

Also you're looking at a pretty long delivery time, roughly 4 weeks with the possibility of paying import tax..sometimes you get away with it though. Odd.

I think I'll be purchasing one in the next few months. People always seem to easily sell them on that FB page if they don't quite meet the requirements instead of sending them back to China!
