In the old days you used to be able to buy 'short engines' that were the block, head and internals and you reused your own stuff like alternator, turbo etc etc. So maybe you don't need the complete engine. Have you already bought a new engine head and gasket etc?

Well done getting a replacement block. Keep at it because in the end you’ll know your Bongo really well. If it’s any comfort, a guy at work has just paid over three thousand pounds to replace the diesel in his two (2) year old car (German btw).
