Not running after start up

1997 - Bongo petrol 2.5 v6

Today, my Bongo broke down. Been driving it all day and then just died at a set of lights.

Then, wouldn't start at all. Called out the recovery man. Long story short, if we left it for 10 mins, it'll start, run for 1 to 2 mins and then die. Then will start again but die after 30 seconds, then wont start at all unless left for another 10 mins. This didn't make any difference if it was rev'd

He took out one of the plugs and tested it. Yes, the plugs fired but no trace of any fuel coming out.

He seems to think it's the fuel pump. Then got towed to my garage ready for Monday.

Does anyone concur or disagree.

Have you tried starting and running it with the petrol filler cap removed? Just in case it is the breather to the petrol tank that is blocked.

Update - went out to the Bongo Parked up at the garage to test it.

It ran at idle for 35 mins then cut out - then 5 mins, then 2 mins, then 1 min etc - then wouldn't start at all

Sounds almost like its linked to the engine block getting up to temperature. Could it be related to distributor, coil or HT leads perhaps? :-k
