Bongo Fury

After a run out in the Bongo my wife noticed water dripping down from under the engine.

I kept an eye on the levels and didnt notice any drop but the leak keeps leaking..

It only ever a small amount and stops after about five minutes. I have had the seats up and cant see anything wrong so Im somewhat baffled.

Any ideas bongoliers?

is it the water from the air conditioner?

I guess it could be but how can I be 100% sure?

A good clue - have you had the aircon switched on?

All summer but only just noticed it leaking.

hi put your finger in it if it has no smell water. you will soon no if its diesel or oil ?

Its water.

Is it the drain below the windscreen?
If you open the bonnet you'll see a black plastic tray below the windscreen, the drain hole in this can block up so worth checking there!

A good suggestion and a maintainance task often overlooked.

But as the tray only fills up when it's been raining, how would you tell when you stopped ?.
Drips would be coming from everywhere and falling onto a wet surface.

I think I would settle for the aircon suggestion.

As I don't have the agility to crawl underneath to see, my comments could be a load of crap.

i have had a leak which sounds very similar. it took me sometime to find and my levels didn't drop much (they did sometimes after a long journey). I would find that a small pool of water would be under the middle of the bongo after i had driven for a bit. However, there was no obvious pipe above the pool of water.......

I tracked it down to a coolant pipe that connected to the heater system pipes - those long metal pipes that run along the side of the vehicle. Under the passenger seat the pipe was dripping at the clip onto a hot engine part and only when the engine was hot and seemingly only when moving. Whenever i was stationary it wasn't losing water. To make it more complicated, when it did drip it fell onto the tray under the engine and ran across this until it found a way out... so it was hard to see where the water on the ground was coming from. Because it was right next to the engine the heat of the engine tended to vapourise the evidence.

Anyway here is a picture i took to track down a replacement pipe. Hope it helps you find your leak...

After stopping at a motorway service station this summer and filling the bongo up, I returned from paying to see water dripping from under the engine. "Oh god, its done a pipe, with 100 miles left to travel and no breakdown cover"

My mate went under the van and came out laughing. "Its only the ice melting off you aircon unit" Says he.

Thank god for that.

Its the first car I have owned that does this. So i was touching cloth for a few minutes, but he was right.
If you run the aircon it gets cold, so moisture freezes on the outside of the unit, when you switch it off it melts. Nowt to worry about.

Had the same thing happen to me, when you undo the clip holding the water pipe to the crankcase you can see the small cracks and splits, these would only leak when the engine was hot and the water under pressure.
I cut 2 inches off the end making sure all the split bits were gone and put it back together, been OK since.

Mine turned out to be the overflow pipe from the tray under the wind screen. We dont get much rain down here thats why I couldnt work out what it was !!!!

If its clogged, the excess water spills on the heater motor and causes it to fail
