Bongo Fury

So after 10 years of diesel Bongo ownership, we're changing to a 2001 V6 AFT and planning to convert to LPG.

Keeping the diesel for now as the new one isn't converted to camper. So LOADS of jobs to do on the new one, including low coolant alarm, underseal, fit MPH dial on the speedo, fit alarm. The list (and expense) is endless. But very excited.

- First question for the Bongo quora is, which LPG converter do you recommend ? I'm S Wales, but can travel a bit.
- Second is where can I get a low coolant alarm? It's been years since I bought one.
- Third, what's the best quality MPH dial face to buy?

I've been happy with mine.

First of all with LPG, work out your nearest source. After that work out where you want to travel and the likely sources of LPG in those areas, remember the actual mpg on LPG is less than with petrol, but it is currently a lot cheaper! Hence your range of travel will be reduced compared to petrol. You will still of course have recourse to petrol, but will be slightly defeating the object if you use too much, bear in mind that outside of larger towns the LPG sources are less common, also the updating of the usual Apps on smartphones isn't always that fast for the current locations.

As the amonia hydrogen gas thing is here, and they have cracked the moving of this around the world etc, this gas powered bongo thing may be better than we initially thought.
As hydrogen is 3 times more efficient than traditional fuels it's even being thought of as a domestic fuel.
You can keep your Tesla I'm waiting for the hydrogen.
It'll be an interesting few years bringing this in to general use .

Been watching the hydrogen thing. It'll be interesting to see how it goes as i got the impression its not really as cheap as battery-elec in overall cost and range for battery-elec is improving, potentially undermining its appeal. But, it has some significant attractions and ?Toyota have faith in it. No use to Gripped in his current situation though i think, sadly?

I secretly witnessed a Hydrogen powered car (Vauxhall Victor) in the 1960s,the owner John Crawford was the inventor of the "Crawford Economiser" .

Biggest problem with Hydrogen is distributing it out all round the country and then storing it, as a liquid it has to be cooled down to 33°K or -253°C if your going to store it as a gas then your talking rather high pressures 10,000 PSI typically. Its currently only 70-80% efficient to generate from water with Max of approx. 88% being achievable. To do this you need energy to provide the electricity as well to break it down!

But the Aussies can do it for free with all that sun, then ship it round the world, still no good in hebden bridge though.

We have plenty of that, I can see 36 lovely windmills from the back of my house in the hills and it rains nearly every day, its a no brainer "Use the Planet to Save the Planet" a wee Quote from Rabbie Burns.
