Promised I would pop back once the garage had had a look. They are suggesting a new turbo as the wastegate actuator doesn’t move. Not sure which end of that linkage is the main problem though, the actuator or the bit inside the inter cooler. Just need to find the parts now!

Hi all, just a quick update tested solenoids and vacuume pipes under drivers seat all seem ok, so I intend to remove the two egr valves what is the easiest way to remove these.

Cheers guys

Check the ones under the passenger seat, including the brown one, if you haven't already.

Its possible to remove and clean the egr etc.

Hi all, I’ve checked all six, two under the passenger seat and four under the drivers seat and all the associated vacuum pipes all seem ok. My next post of call is the two egr valves located at rear top of engine opened panel at rear of cabin but still looks awkward, not sure easiest way to tackle it any ideas?

Cheers all

Hi all, just a update on my 0400/1228, both egr valves removed and cleaned (really not that dirty just a light coating of soot) all 6 solenoids tested at running temp with a separate 12 volt supply all are clicking away.

Took the van for a short drive about 10 miles and glow light started flashing, checked fault codes still 0400/1228.
Bought the electrical cd to try to fathom if the solenoids are connected electrically but understand the diagrams.

So I’m not sure where to go from here my mechanical and electrical skills are at my limit so any suggestions would be appriciated.

Thanks all

Hi guys,

Sorry I’ve been gone so long. Kids, work, health, lock down....

I finally got round to trying the suggestion on Facebook to clean the turbo.

Difficult to give her a proper run but I’ve had a few essential journeys now with no issues. Also left her to idle for a few hours with no issues. I’m no confident to say that the clean solved the 0400 and 1228.

Not the greatest video, I’m no Youtuber but I hope this helps or at least prompts further ideas:

Sorry for the hmmms and errrrs.

Finally on to fitting the diesel heater! Good luck and hope this can help you.

No problem. Let us know if it works for you. I fear it may be an annual clean.

I know just how much heartache and headache this causes, I hope this is able to resolve it for others.

Rhonda boy, you’re probably far more adept at this than I am but wow, those three bolts! Several days of frequent wd40 and for two bolts I was able to get a spanner on and use pliers on the end of the spanner to get more leverage, access under the passenger seat rather than under the van.

Hi guys, well mister muscle didn’t work for me a little disappointed, but the I only have one error code now 0400 has disappeared and so has 1228 what it’s showing now is a 1227 it’s still a turbo code so I intend to have a closer look at the red and white solenoids under the drivers seat. Any other information would be appreciated.

Thanks all

Rhondda boy

Trying this fix now, I have the vertical actuator set up, how much should it deviate at the end of the process and should it move up or down?
