I'm a sucker for anorak articles, as I have just stuck a hardshell roof top tent on my Bongo I was interested in possible mpg issues with 50Kg extra weight and added resistance, this article confirms my first drive with it on; that it had no real impact on motorway and A roads for my mpg, the AC on would possibly have a greater impact!

Yes, Bongy can be a little thirsty compared to a new hatch back, but what counts is overall running costs, plus it's worth a bit for the versatility.

I've always fancied one of those. We have a Bongo and a Land Rover. I wonder if the roof tent would fit them both.

There are many variants to choose from, but yes they would fit both your vehicles, Mini even do one! Here are a couple of suppliers, I can vouch for Tuff Trek quality and realistic prices, Ikamper is good but £3K+ counts them out for me. Soft and hard shell, I prefer the hard shell, less hassle and don't have to fanny around with a cover plus they are aerodynamic etc. Vast majority are made in China, there are some cheaper no brand variants but they are usually very heavy, have shoddy workmanship and detailing with bad quality materials. There is also the top dollar Overland quality kit for 4x4 adventures made to last, mine is the mid point more recreational with infrequent over Summer when using the van, still sturdy and well built though.

How easy are they to fit and then remove?

Easy to fit. Bolts onto roof bars using a ratchet ring spanner, getting it on the roof was ok with two people and then it slides over the bars. Will remove it end of October and fit again in the Spring.
