Bongo Fury

The sections of cable that go from the centre pull to each of my rear wheels have corroded. Replacements are mad money online but I've found a local company who are happy to make up replacements once I give them the old ones as a template.

Has anyone come across this or attempted to replace them themselves? Just looking for tips or pointers before I tackle it
