updating gross vehicle weight on v5

Post by Windstille » Sun Oct 01, 2023 6:16 pm

My v5 certifcate lists the gross weight as 1770kg. I don't have any plates or stickers in the van stating an unladen and gross weight following conversion.

Has anyone had success updating the v5 with the dvla. Would a copy of the members factsheets on weight suffice as evidence along with a weighbridge certifcate?

Or would keeping copy of the members factsheet in the van be enough if I were pulled over and weighed?

Has anyone been pulled over and weighed ?
A lot of weigh bridges have been removed not sure there are many operational now other than on major roads usually leading to ports for weighing of lorries or run by companies involved with lorries. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=list+ ... dges+in+uk

Hi, this is not legal advice, just my view.

Can I ask where you have your gross weight figure from, please?

My understanding is the Bongo weighs about 17750kgs unladen, with a max gross of 2250kgs.

Whatever you do to it it must not exceed 2250kgs on the road, and you don’t need to try (indeed, you can’t) change this on the V5.

Hope that helps. :)

You're right g8dhe, there's virtually none left ( that they're admitting to anyway. Always feel there's a few tucked away on motorways behind "police only" signs ).

Asking from a mix of over cautiousness and not wanting the insurance company to have a get out clause.

Hi Bob, to quote my V5 certificate

[Y]: Revenue weight 1770KG GROSS

There are no other weights on the v5. Are you saying that the stated revenue weight should be 2250Kg?

I need to get it changed anyway as it says 5 seats when there's only 4, 2 front and 2 rock and roll.

Apologies for slow reply, mine shows 'Revenue Weight 2300 KG Gross'.

There’s certainly a lot of confusion on the internet, but it does look as though yours is showing the unladen weight as gross, which is obviously wrong.

I can only suggest contacting the DVLA.

Thank you very much for youur reply Bob, that's really helpful letting me kno wwhat your V5 says.

I'll send a letter to the DVLA and try using the member's factsheet / allans document as evidence of the weights.

Just checked my V5c neither have any weights recorded and only one has the VIN recorded for the two I have owned over the years!
