Nose-up bleeding method?

Are there instructions anywhere on how to fill and bleed the coolant system (2.5TD) by raising the front of the vehicle on a ramp, rather than using a bleed hose and funnel?
I understand the top of the radiator needs to be elevated higher than the top of the engine, but can't find any more details. If I manage to get the van into this position do I fill radiator and header tank when cold, then run the engine with radiator cap off to let the air escape?
As mentioned in another thread a couple of months ago, my engine no longer has the three-way piece at the top of the engine block and I have no bleed hose. My garage has successfully replaced the coolant a couple of times since using this method but they aren't able to take the van in at the moment and I could really do with getting it back on the road this weekend.
