Instrument cluster question

Question for those in the know.

Can you swap the instrument cluster from a 1996 2.5 2wd diesel to one of the face lift models?

Looking at the diagrams the connectors haven't changed but there are significant differences between diesel and petrol versions as there are differences in the lights (lack of Glowplug) etc. You would need to check that they are from similar engines, but without checking each and every circuit I can't be certain that they are otherwise identical.
