temperature gauge and hold light flashing help needed!

Hello any memebers help appreciated

I have had my Bongo for 6months it is automatic 2wd auto top. Every since I have had it the Hold light on the console flashes. Recently the engine began to overheat and make funny noises when I stopped I noticed the coolant was down. A repair man said the head gasket might be going so I had it towed home. The garage had it 2 days and could find nothing wrong with it but when I got it home the coolant was low again. I have noticed when you put water in the engine it is leaking out of a pipe underneath. I have also noticed the heater doesn`t work very well which I think is linked. Please could someone let me know where -abouts their temperature gauges on a similar model is during normal driving mine was always below cold untill recently and now is above middle and if I should be worried about the hold light flashing. Is it also normal it changes up gears at about 75 miles an hour. Concerned un-car educated bogno user. :?

Hello Routhwaite

I think you have two unconnected problems here. First the coolant. the 'normal' position for the temp guage is just below halfway at about "11 o clock". You say you have a leak coming from underneath. Find the source and cure it ASAP before you do some serious damage to your engine.

As for the hold light. In addition to its day job as an indicator for holding the gear and stopping the autobox from changing up, it doubles as an error indicator for the transmission. If you read the fact sheet from the members area it will explain how to read and decipher the code. It is known for the flashing hold light to signify a faulty speedo chip but this only occurs intermittantly. If it is continually flashing then the inference is it really is a problem with the transmission. Again get it looked at sooner rather than later as it could prove to be expensive.

dont drive until leak is fixed and bleed coolant system as fact sheet in members area or serious damage could occur

Try Japan Direct Service Centre in Bury 0161 763 3003 and the chaps name is Adrian. I haven't used him myself yet (not had my Bongo long enough) but he does the servicing for Manchester Campers.
