Hey bongo people, i hope you can help!!

OUr bongo m Reg 2.5 td automatic, seems to be broken. It wont get past just over 2 on the rev counter and has lost a lot of power, takes ages to get enough speed to change gears and its speed drops when going uphill.

what could be wrong with it?

Hi Debs & kate...this sounds like there is not enough air getting in...could be a siezed turbo..( I hope not )..or a restriction in the air intake.....try removing air filter first...if no joy with that then you need to take the air intake pipe off the turbo and put hand in to see if it will spin...with the engine off of course.. ....hope it's a simple problem....Alan

actually there is an increased noise of air sucking coming from the van when driving it...does that point closer towards it being simple??? i hope so!

Maybe a leaking exhaust manifold leak due to loose bolt.Is there a pronounced squealing noise when you rev up?a bit like the noise made by a slipping fan belt!
Noticeable loss in power as this happened to me 300 miles from home,it was a long plod back. Raise the passenger seat to access the manifold for inspection. Not expensive repair for gasket + a couple of bolts maybe-hopefully no snapped ones,cause then you've got problems.Good luck

I reckon your turbo pipe has come off, check the fasteners. A leaking manifold will squeal but I did not lose much power when it happened to me, depends on the size of leak I suppose. My money is on the turbo hose, if it is that it should be a quick and easy fix.

Theres no sqeaking the only noticable thing was the extra sucking air noise. Also, kate seemes to think the accelerator became more stiff, or maybe shes just imagining it...

right some good places to check...well get a knowledgable person to look at at least! thanks, i hope its the turbo hose, i'll be back to let you know and get more advise if its not, ......thankyou!!

could be something as simple as a clogged fuel filter

You say the accelerator feels stiff. Try lifting the drivers seat & rev it up (in Park) & see if its any different. May be the cable is jammed or slipped.

Sounds like a feul restriction to me....checvk your filters and your water trap.

HAd very similar problem the flexible air pipe had come off the turbo, under the passenger seat.

i had the same symptoms in ours. would not rev over 2000 and very low power.
very simple solution. i removed the bottle of spare water that had been sucked onto the air intake under the bonnet so check that there is no restriction in the air intake or filter.
the pipe leads off from the air filter box under the drivers seat, around the rear of the engine and into the turbo under the passenger seat.

Hi Dreamwarrior....I had the very same problem but mine was a bottle of screenwash.....had the AA out on the m6 toll......very embarrasing.. ...the bottle had the shape of the air intake imprinted on it.. ...hope it's as simple Debs...Alan

How long is a piece of string? i had similar symptoms in my old ford mondeo, turned out to be a collapsed back box... if it wont come out,( exhaust gases)you cant get any more in( fuel/air) good luck with a remedy. keep us all posted?

My knowledgable neighbour has been very busy, so we're trying to help the process along by checking the things that you have suggested. wejust checked under the passenger seat and have found a small pip which has one of its ends disconnected... does anyone have a picture of the said turbo pipe so i could cross reference?

...hoping to be driving home for christmas!
