Re: AFT MOTOR
The 2 motors are shunt motors and have brushes. With the age of most Bongos before we get our hands on them the brushes and commutater have worn to some degree.Passing the motors to a competent car electrician should be able to restore them to almost a new condition. When I had my problems with the ...

Re: AFT Roof won't go up. Need a good Bongo techie in South
You're quite right each motor pushes the 2 flexable drives.
At the end of each motor, which have brushes and are these probably cause the motor failures,is a worm drive. This turns a plastic gear. The gear is conected to the output drive via a friction plate. The ouput drive has a gear sitting in a ...

Re: AFT Roof won't go up. Need a good Bongo techie in South
The cable with the 4 wires is the one you need. The red and black wires feed the 12 volts into the control panel. The other 2 wires, green I think, carry this voltage to the motors Oneway to lift the other way to lower the roof. The relays and switches set which way round the Voltage is. There are 2 ...

Re: dead roof
It may be possible to lift the roof if the motors are not dead.If you get access to the roof comtrol box, this is on the drivers side just to the rear of the stowage box (one screw). The control box is held onto the body work by one screw and my with luck be removed via the stowage box area.If this ...

Re: Roof Yet Again
Hi,one thing that has been often meansioned on the forum is that disconecting the battery has often seamed to cure problems. You could simulate this by removing fuses 10 and 12 the 2 fuses that feed the control box. This may be worth a try.

Re: Roof Yet Again
You didn't say how you finally got it down.
When you are going "Up" does the alarm cut off ,if it does this indicates that the microswitch has operated. This microswitch is on the pasenger side at the rear of the rail.
If the switche has operated before you can bring it down you must operate the ...

Re: Roof Yet Again
Took the motor to pieces today. The electric motor had had some water in it,evidence of rust.It has Carbon Brushes, probably the cause of the failure. The electric motor drives a plastic gear wheel via a worm drive. The plastic gear drives the output gear via a friction drive. The nut on the other side ...

Re: split chargers woes
Had a similar problem on my system some time ago.The VSR monitors the main 12v voltage and when the main voltage reaches a fully charged state it switches to charge the second battery. The surge in curent on my system caused the main voltage to drop a little. The VSR detected this and cut off the ...

Re: Roof Yet Again
Hi Rhod
The roof is quite heavy and to convert it to a mechanical system you would require some way of disengaging the locks on both sides. You can see the lock area when the roof is down if you have opened the tent and fly screen,so it may be posible to have some system here.
The lifting mechanism ...

Re: Roof Yet Again
Well back to it now the rain has stopped.Got the roof up by pressing down on the roof before operating the motors. The locking bit is fixed to the roof so its trying to pull the roof down against the struts and the rubber seal so my original efferts to lift the roof manually(with air bed) only made ...
