Jim,
I read the above post last night & then went to bed. This morning I woke up & thought you have got the low profile figures the wrong way round.
A tyre has a code such as:
"185/60R/15H"
A/B/C
A = Width of tyre (in millimetres)
In this example it shows that the tyre is 185mm wide.
B ...

Re: Broken roof cabling mechanism.
Oh dear, sorry to hear of your woe on your first post on the forum!
A similar thing has just happened to us, our roof came down unevenly but after some calm thinking & some methodical spanner work we managed to get the roof back down & drive home so I could fully access what had happened.

Re: 2wd autobox on a 4wd
I have just noticed looking at parts diagrams for the bongo auto box that the 99 onwards have a different part number for the input shaft & the front oil seal.
So the difference may not be between 2WD & 4WD it may be the AGE of the vehicle which the replacement g/box comes from that's important ...

Re: Lower wisbone balljoint boots. A Part Number that fits.
The lower band of the boots must have a metal ring inside the rubber as it is stiff to handle & maintains it's round shape.
I fitted mine by using a length on 1.5" diameter exhaust pipe with some slits in the end that allowed the pipe to swell as the boot fitted onto to ball joint. I used a large ...

Lower wishbone balljoint boots. A Part Number that fits.
After being in the position of being warned at my last MOT that my boots were a little perished & would need replacing, the mission was on.
I am aware of the threads on the forum earlier in the year regarding sourcing & the results not fitting ideally, & also with Ady sourcing ball joints & then ...

Re: Water Marks on Windows
BDC,
When I did the window claying, there was a lot of "drag" initially & it did get less, but after an age these marks were still visible.
I mixed "Bar Keepers Friend" powder into a thick paste & rubbed it over the glass in a circular motion & then left it on to soak in for maybe 15 mins & then ...

Your Bongo might have one of them Japanese headlight dimmer systems fitted that dim the headlights when the engine is ticking over.Never seen one fitted but it has cropped up on the firum before.

Re: Water Marks on Windows
I did try Meguiares clay kit on the exterior glass & that didn't do a lot, apart from get me sweating & cursing at the lack in change of appearance.
The wire wool wasn't entered into lightly but if you use really fine (grade 0000) there is no scratching, it's like slightly rough cotton wool!!

Re: Water Marks on Windows
Our Bongo had water marks on the outside of the glass when it came from Japan, it looked like salt water but it wasn't.
The windows were not factory tinted, but we have now made them tinted with an after market tint on the inside.
We tried all kinds of window cleaners but in the end I rubbed them ...

Re: oil from air intake
I thought air intake as being the inlet manifold.....but thinking about how would you see it unless a vacuum pipe or something was off
Never really gave a thought to oil running back to the air filter box.
Will be interested to hear which it is.

Never fit one on a Bongo personally, but we have a autobox expert who is called Alacrity
Here's one thread that was posted a while back
http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... oil+cooler
Probably worth sending him a pm direct.

Re: oil from air intake
I think this sounds like you need to remove the intake air intercooler & drain the engine oil that has possibly gathered in it.
It could be that over the period of time your Bongo wasn't started, the oil in the intake system has gravitated there (being the lowest point) & now seems like a lot.
