Shhhhhhh.................that kind of loose talk will have the price spirallingwaycar8 wrote:I have bought the mason alarm and fitted it, for me i think its got the upper edge over the coolant loss alarm, as it actually stops overheating by warning you that its getting hot wether its because you have a leaking hose or a blocked rad,or the fans arnt working.
The coollant loss alarm only warns you that you have lost coolant, allthoe this in itself is good, it only tells you this.
So for me the mason alarm has the deffinate upperhand and @£27, its a snip.
But it all comes down to what you want, and feel safe with.
Coolant Alarm or Mason alarm?

Thanks guys - as always comprehensive and well balanced thoughts...
I reckon I've got no choice but to fit both - apart from looking real stupid if one failed to do the job - I think if the coolant alarm is a well focused bit of kit and as you say, it should kick in before the mason alarm - and at £27 quid extra the mason alarm gives you the full protection... I guess £100 spread over the life of the van - say 5 years? - £20 a year - 40p a week - a bargain!!..

I have already ordered the Mason Alarm. The Coolant Loss Alarm will follow when my bank balace allows.
To think that I bombed my Bongo up and down the hills in the Highlands this summer before I even knew that the Bongo had overheating problems gives me a cold shudder when I think of what could have happened.

Remember it is rare, any car will overheat if theres a lack of coolant. All older cars are likely to have the same problems, perished hoses etc.MountainGoat wrote:I have already ordered the Mason Alarm. The Coolant Loss Alarm will follow when my bank balace allows.

Wonder if being cooler up here in the first place, helps the system?

i have the coolant alarm
ideal for lazy sods who can`t be bothered to check hoses every day
plus i have a digital temp guage clamped right on the cylinder head
so should tell me the head is getting too hot before it circulates back to the thermostat ( too late i fear in most cases)in the coolant
which will beep(gorrd another one) if it gets too hot
plus a constant readout on the dash
does for me

I like your philosophy Mr Hayden. PM me some details & I'll have one of those kits off of you.haydn callow wrote: This all started because I wanted a reliable alarm in my Bongo and it snowballed. I belive it is a very good product but I am certainly not going to knock anyone else who is trying to achieve somthing along the same lines. My forte is making false teeth. Electronics is a mystery to me.

clogger, I put a switch in the oil "beep" wire so I can turn the bugger off.
If I have everything on, I get "beeps from the , door, coolant alarm, oil pressure (continuas) trailer lights, roof, radio and a couple more I don't even know about. Great fun...confusing...but great fun.....
By the way I will be playing golf with the lads in Spain next week.....Got to spend all that profit from the alarms before Darling Alister gets it.
