masons alarm

Hi everyone fitted the mason alarm today and found it easy to do

went for a run to see what happend set it to 4 it alarmed quite quickley at that,so put it to 5 and that was ok the only thing that was worrying was the temp gauge it went up to just over the three quarter mark is this ok please.

yes the temp guage does move to about 1 oclock and even nearly to the red line on the right. the mason alarm makes the guage work like it should do, with a greater range of readings and not just stuck at 11 oclock position.
and mine is set just a tad over the 5 mark seting.

Me and Dave were on about this last night, it does make your toes curl when it first goes up, but you soon get used to it Heather.

Got rid of reverse bleep cause I have just fitted sensors.
Suppose I need a coolant alarm now. So many good ideas on here
and lots of helpful people. Hope your van is quiet now and you didnt get flooded last week.
I suppose this will get moved but I wasnt sure where to post it, so I will mentioin coolant alarm again Will post something when I have fitted one.

Brian - this is bending the thread but you just said something interesting. I'm going to fit reversing sensors but had imagined I'd still want my reverse bleeper to remind me I'm in reverse, as I didn't expect my reversing sensor to make any noise unless I got close to something. But do they make some kind of short beeping even when not close to an object? It would be great if they did as I'm not relishing two different beepers at work when in reverse and getting close to something

My Maplin sensors change the rate of beep the closer you get starting at 3 metre and a steady beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep atr 1metre.
I disconnected the dreaded reverse gear beep in the first week

Dandywarhol has answered your question, you certainly dont want 2 lots of beeps and I also have the l.e.d. display. By the way I routed my wires to the nearside cluster to pick up a live from the rear of the (cigar lighter)
socket, for the power for sending to wireless l.e.d.

Thanks Brian. I thought long and hard about the LED option but reckoned in the end my gaze would not stay fixed on them. Once I'd decided that I thought why get wireless if I've got to take a panel off to hide the control unit whether wireless or not. Might as well hide the buzzer at the same time. On top of that I was feeling tight £ wise as have spent too much lately. So £14 for a simple kit was the result. We'll see how it goes! I 'like' having the reverse bleeper on the gearstick JUST IN CASE I should put my foot down not realising I'm in reverse and back into someone. It remains to be seen if I can cope with 2 buzzers - I dont like noisy rackets much

PS - The one that really caught my eye was the rear view mirror LED wireless one but at £50 inc. postage and the smash n grab appeal (plus I'd have had to give up my wide angle rear view mirror which I like a lot) I got over it

Hi Wished I had gone for buzzer only as they are easier to fit. I put one in my shogun and they beep once when you engage reverse and then beep quicker the nearer you get to something, so you will definetly know you are in reverse. If you remove rear cubby box thingy near ciggie lighter
there is plenty of space for unit without removing panel. just need to put another hole in the large grommit behind cluster.

Thanks Brian - now that is an EXCELLENT tip and I'll follow it up. Is the buzzer loud enough to be put there as well or do you think I should try and put it further forward e.g. near the drivers seat (though that would mean doing my equipment positioning on the drivers side, though I guess I could just remove the cubby on the drivers side). Don't want the reversing sensor buzzer to be drowned out by the reverse gear select buzzer

Well I've just fitted reversing sensors - 4 of them to the rear bumper. It's the wireless type and I took the power for the control box from the reversing light feed on the offside rear cluster. Following a tip on one of the threads I routed the feed from the reversing light down behind the bumper and back up into the van via a perforation under the rear horizontal plastic trim.

The monitor flashes with an increasing no of segments and shows the distance as it reduces and has a changing beep.

It all seems to work fine but the Freda reversing beep is now a real nuisance. I've read lots of info on this forum about dealing with beeps - I'm more confused than ever since I only want to disable the reversing beep and not the others. And there seems to be differing opinions on where the beeping wires are located.

Oh dear - sounds like I'll be disabling my reversing beep then. Cant win. Fit reversing sensors to reduce risk of hitting something behind you, then disable reverse gear beeper thus increasing chances of reversing accidentally. The clever / stupid balance is thus restored, as the advert goes

The reversing beepers give you an audible beep when you initially select reverse Mike - really no other reason to be in reverse except when reversing IMO

- unless you're testing the reversing lamps
