My mechanic is at a loss.....
My bongo developed the usual cold start problem, and the new glow plugs were duly fitted. Two weeks later and the problem has re-occurred but worse. The new plugs had failed already, my mechanic has not worked on a bongo before and has been advised by a reluctant Mazda mechanic to try ordering a new expensive timer thingy from Japan as that "might" be the problem. Any ideas please....I am getting worried!

WELCOME

Not come accross that one yet, but surley you could get the timer thingy from a breakers rather than new from Japan?
Check out the advertisers on the Home page. Plus wait here for some more answers, and more usefull ones at that!!
I changed my plugs a few months ago, and that worked for me, and still is.
All the best

Sounds like it could be a failing / failed glowplug relay you will find it under the bonnet on the inner wing on the drivers side with a clear waterproof cover on it - a good auto electrician should be able to test it for you . Hope this helps.

If I had all the money I ever spent on my Freda ............ I`d spend it on my Freda.

If the glow plugs have all failed (rather than supply) then they must have been running continuously. This is very easy to check for with a volt meter or temporary warning light. If the relay has gone then you could use a heavy duty on/off standard relay for about a tenner but you will then have to work the plugs manually. You could try giving the relevant members fact sheet to him so he understands the system a bit better.

Re: My mechanic is at a loss.....
Is this "the engine will not physically start" or does it start but is very sluggish, no umph & difficult to even get the engine to go over 2000 revs in or out of gear?mechanik wrote:My bongo developed the usual cold start problem,
If so, do you have the cold weather kit? (switch with light on it & pic of engine to right lower of steering wheel), also two batteries & a strange box in the exhaust before any of the silencers.
If you do we had/have the same problem & it seems to be some sort of sticking valve in that box.
