Checked battery when back home, battery was indicating full charge 
Fired up fine at 3.30a.m as I took my son to his Saturday job, warning lights still appearing at low revs 
Took bongo down to garage for planned service and battery was indicating low charge. Left at garage awaiting the verdict 
Pete Alternator is faulty on tickover very low voltage, when engine working, voltage is fine, so I reckon a replacement is required, If I remember correctly Mike, the alternator as already been in for repair, so I hope to sort something out with Wayne, then investigate further repair of ageing original alternator, then again perhaps it has done its job and needs retiring Pete If you can get some just try changing the brushes, I had just the same as this on a previous car and managed to change the brushes from underneath without removing the alternator and at a cost of just a few quid.Peg leg Pete wrote:Well Bongo back from service, I supplied the fuel and oil filters, garage got the oil and airfilter- brakes checked- oil and filters changed- £70.00 inc vat
That is a really interesting point scanner. As the world changes and we are asked to think more carefully about repairing and recycling stuff, you would hope to see the kind of mechanic who can do a job like that prosper over the 'throw it away and get a new one - oh and here's the bill' mentality that seems to underlie why main dealers are so mistrusted. It will be interesting to see if Pete's old alternator is restorable (and subsequently resellable of course!)scanner wrote:I actually did it on a lift in the local Fiat specialists and had the two owners/mechanics watch as I did it.
