Different Tyre aspect ratio on one wheel

I'd stick the 65 section wheel as a full sized spare, (limited use then if used) A replacement bongo steel wheel can be bought for about £2 (without tyre) Then,say £40-£50 for a new tyre? Probably cheaper than the fine and three points if you get a tug...[/quote]

Ahh well that busts that theory as to why his plate shows 195/80 then.

Well I checked the manual last night, that didn't mention the 80 tyres at all.

Having spoken to a couple of tyre and bongo wheel places I am going to replace the 65 with a 70 tyre later today, then when they wear out I'll consider 70 or 65 all round.

Apole mentioned his bongo being a 1999 model...perhaps a winter spec NEW SHAPE bongo has 80 aspect ratio tyres? I'm assuming you are on a new shape apole? Being a 1999 model n' all?

But that is a case where assumption can be presumed... A 1999 bongo is likely, but not definitely going to be a "new shape"....

It could be argued that your original assumption was indicative of apole's inability to think of swapping over the correct sized spare(if he had one) as the permanent wheel, then use the wrong sized tyre as the spare.

I wasn't "telling you off" scanner, merely pointing out that it could be misconstrued that you were teaching granny to suck eggs.

Not "inability" just "not", he'd made no mention of the spare whatsoever, not even that it was (in fact) a spacesaver or that it (if not a spacesaver) had the "wrong size" tyre as well.

I simply asked what sort it was and "IF" it was a full size which size of tyre was on it. Surely a reasonable question if we are attempting to explore all avenues.

Instead of apole getting rid of the 215/65 completely, surely we should be advising him to dump the S/Saver pronto, use the 215/65 as a spare for now and get another 215/70 on another full size rim to use as the 4th wheel?
