Changing cambelt problems,PLZ HELP!
I was in the process of changing my cambelt when I got really confused
My timing marks don't line up!! When the pump timing mark lines up the camshaft mark is 180 degrees out or there abouts and vice versa.I've check the flywheel marks and they line up with the pump timing marks. am I doing something wrong or is my camshaft out alot????

Guess you'll have to wait until somebody who has done it comes along
I've never done the Bongo one, but had no trouble with other vehicles.

Not sure what you're doing wrong but are you aware the pump and cam drive at the same speed and the pump and crank are connected by gears at half speed. If the engine ran fine before then the crank/pump timing can't be out

I used the factsheet & it seemed to work ok, although my belt also came with a copy of proper instructions from the engine manual (not the translated version). I don't have a copy to hand, but you do have to make two complete revolutions of the crankshaft (in the normal direction of rotation) as part of the tensioning process. The camshaft rotates at half the speed of the crankshaft, however as dandy states, the diesel pump rotates at the same speed as the camshaft so they can't go 'out of sync'.

...........and to add - the crankshaft rotates clockwise looking from the front and the camshaft rotates anticlock.

Either you are miss reading the timing marks or one of the sprockets has been attached incorrectly.testrun00 wrote:I was in the process of changing my cambelt when I got really confusedMy timing marks don't line up!! Is it possible for the sprockets to be attached out of alignment?
Good luck..............................

Re: Changing cambelt problems, NOW SORTED
For some reason only the cowboy who did the cambelt last time knows
,but the bloody fuel pump pulley cover with the timing mark on was the wrong way round hence it looked 180 degrees out.The only reason I noticed was because there a hole for a locating dowel, but there was no dowel and on the other side was a dent coming out where the IDIOT put it on the wrong way round. So everything is now SORTED
while I was underneath the car I changed the oil both diff's,transfer box, gearbox oh and I did valve clearances aswell.Just finished and it's now 2:55am and I knackered
and at work at 6:00am I'm not going to be a grumpy arse much
Thanks for all the suggestions guys,

Glad you've got it sorted & well done for spotting the problem. Imagine what could have happened if someone else had not questioned the symptoms & just put it back together as they thought it should be. I'm surprised something as critical as a timing mark can be re-assembled the wrong way round in the first place.
