another leak this time diesel!!!!

I had a water leak which was the water pump which I have fixed my self but now I have a new leak 600 miles later. I have found diesel under the bongo. the leak seems to be far back is there a possible common problem?

Every time I fix one thing something else goes wrong, it is getting a bit long in the tooth.

What do you mean by "far back"?? far back on the engine or sort of under the fuel tank ??

sorry far back on engine. I was looking in the bongo manual and looking at the prim pump but looks to far forward. the leak is dripping off the oil sump plug area.

Thats probably where it would drip from wherever on the engine it is leaking from...Probably from the pump area but check the fuel filter and connecting pipes.

I had a drippy Bongo. Diesel pump offside O ring seal in my case as it turned out. It's quite common I'm afraid on these ageing diesels. Easily changed by Wheelquick for v. reasonable cost. Nimble fingered owners have done their own (the nearside one is the trickier as access is v limited) but my attempt to do it failed and I did my back in! Dandywarhol can advise (or Search on here) of a source who will post you the correct O rings for a few quid if you wish to try it yourself (be v careful and read up if you do as bits and pieces can spring out as you remove the pump cover).

Who is Wheelquick? The leak is from the pump by what i can see. don't really want to do it myself as i did my self in changing the water pump.

There's a reputedly excellent Bongo mechanic in South Croydon. SHould be in the recommended garages in members area, or have a search on here for 'Croydon' etc)

I believe (mikeonb4c can confirm this) That one or more of the O ring seals on the pump can be fitted in situ, without even having to remove the pump!

since the fuel leak starting the bongo is a pain in the a*se to be frank. once started van runs ok if on the move, if i come to a stop in drive and the engine is cold it feels like it is going to stall. once hot the bongo seems to run fine is it linked to the fuel leak or do i now have a different problem. I also did a oil change but would not think that would make a lot of difference.

Sounds more like glow plugs. They should stay on for quite a while, after starting the engine, (except when accelerating) until the engine is warm.

Got some one to look at it on Thursday, and getting at quote of 150 to 300 quid depending what is wrong, does this sound about right? A lot of diesel does come out when i start it. does the pump pulley run off the cam belt?

The cost of the repair depends largely on whether the pump needs to be removed or not,If it's one of the inaccessible seals at fault, then yes it will be more expensive, It seems you have been quoted a reasonable "ball park figure".

It's feasible that the leak is affecting the tickover speed,especially when cold when extra fuel is chucked into the engine. The fuel is under more pressure then, and more likely to escape when under pressure.

Have you actually monitored the amount of fuel leaking under various conditions? I recall looking at a bongo with a leaking pump once, and the fuel seemed to leak on tickover, then the leak slowed significantly when revved to around 3000rpm, then wouldn't rev much beyond that due to fuel starvation.
