Oil leak around turbo gasket - I think!?

Hi all.

Just bought my Bongo camper, all kitted out and lovely. Now in the process of making sure everything's sound. I'm a little concerned about some oil around a couple of bolts where I think the turbo unit connects at the top of the engine on the driver's side. Could just be a gasket needs replacing but would appreciate some advice from people with experience. Is this easy to sort, if you're a basically OK with a socket set kinda DIY mechanic like me, or should I take it in to a Bongo pro? Not uncommon wanderer - it's EGR crud. Probably best to disconnect the EGR system and remove/clean/new gasket the inlet manifold but it's not a crucial repair IMO

I think if you're basically OK with spanners, and given the help and support available from peeps on here, then you should learn how to do Bongo jobs as many jobs are not that hard and can save you dosh plus the hassle of having to book it in to places, get it over there etc. esp. as you really want to be taking it to garages that know Bongos for many jobs (if only cos they'll know how to do them quicker and labout costs will stay lower. although some jobs like bleeding the coolant system can really be messed up by an ignorant garage).

Aha! Something I had seen mentioned before but thought it was on the near side. Thanks for your replies, I have made the connection now and think I will go for a blanking plate as that seems to be the best suggested option. If I do that, should I worry about cleaning up the mess on the inlet manifold side and replacing the gasket? I think from want dandywarhol says probably not. Cheers for the words of encouragement on Bongo maintenance mikeonb4c, first job will be starter motor contacts, followed by front bushes ... I really appreciate all your help and links from missfixit70 . What a great forum - and yes, the Bus is great!

Lots of bongos have this and it's generally nothing to worry about, unless it starts pumping out, which they rarely do.
