No. 1 Exhaust Stud.

Had a screech fixed a week or three ago. Exhaust manifold gasket had given up the ghost.

All was well for a week then it started to creep back again, only when cold for a minute or so to start with but has now become a permanent screaming feature.

It seems the disturbance of taking it apart has caused enough stress to result in number one stud shearing.

Bongo's booked in again 2morrow to get it sorted, any techie heads know if I need to get yet another gasket or will the almost new one suffice?

Don't really want it to be done again in a fortnight but also want to be confident that all will be well so will get another one from Ian if ness.

Same gasket should be fine, shouldn't even need to take the manifold off if they're lucky.

Kinda want him to take it off really.

Got a replacement turbo to go on to possibly solve the oil consumption issue so will kill two birds with the same stone once he's got that far.

Hmmm.

Worse than 1st assesed.

BongoDoc has removed sheared stud but when refitting, the holes won't line up.

Exhaust manifold has warped & "new" gasket is shot already

This is the likely cause of original gasket blowing a couple of weeks back, anyone heard of this before?

New manifold costs rickty million dollars but Bongobits have a straight second hand one, coming on Monday.

I've pinched a Sprinter from work to run around in in the meantime but its not quite the same.

When we finaly got ours done the manifold looked bent & needed skiming. Also a good time to blank off your EGR

Update: Bongo is now back & seems to be running like new - so far.

Only had an initial half hour blast but the belching of smoke when booting up hills seems to have gone & (despite the shocking noise from my not quite standard exhaust) it seems almost quiet.

Replacment manifold, problem studs replaced, new gasket, turbo swapped over, oil & filter change, total bill £197. Very fair I thought & really pleased with the result. Its strange that when you get one thing fixed, it seems to make everything else seem better than it was. I swear the steering & brakes feel rejuvenated too!!

Tinworm on the arches to be sorted next along with the spats being (eventually) banged on, smoothed in & painted up.

I have a girl on girl thing for "my" ok our Bongo I hope funds never become a problem for her running, I ain't had an easy life.

When I take her to the mechanics to get her fixed for sommat or other they they can't find a car to drive me back to work, so get to drive me back in my girl. Funnily they pump their shoulders up ("Oh this is a bit of alright, or nice") I retort yes [named mecanic} look after her :oD

Can anyone help with recommending a garage for this near St Albans?

Ours is doing the same squeeling, and no1 and number 7? studs have gone.

All the local garages are saying it is too big a job and before I give up and do it myself can anyone recommend a garage that can do it?

Also, did the bongo feel sluggish before, and better after the stud job? I'm hoping the symptoms are related - turbo pressure drop etc....
