Could be a CV joint. Is it worse when you turn Steering one way or another, whilst moving. Jack one front wheel in neutral if it's 4x4. If 2wd it won't matter about Neutral. Grab Wheel and spin forwards to simulate driving and listen for the clicking. Just something to check. Or have you got a nail in your tyre. Something inbetween the discs or Pads. Also grab the top and bottom of the wheel and see if there is any movement in wheel bearings.

Good call above on the nail. I reckon a cv joint is more a clunking than a clicking. Though I guess peoples definitions of what constitutes a clunk or clck may differ. If cv joint it will get worse if turning. Take it to a carpark and drive round on full lock each way. Could also be a big stone wedged in the tread.

Happened to me a while back. Check behind the back seats, I found an old backing singer from the 1960s was causing it.

If that don't fix it,
Turn off Radio 2

Sorry to be pedantic - but if it's 2wd, I don't think it will have CV joints, will it??B*Witched Blingo wrote:Could be a CV joint. But I agree - if it's 4wd drive, CV joint is something to check on ......
Good luck

Re: Clicking Noise under Bonnett.
A couple of weeks before we had our main holiday this year I had a nail in my rear driver-side tyre and it was noisy as hell. Loud clicking which got faster as I drove faster. I was convinced it was something mechanical until I had the window down and decided it may be coming from outside. As luck would have it, when I parked up, I could actually see the nail (well, I think it was a big tack actually). Expected to have to replace the tyre but our local tyre place did some magic on it, and patched it up for £12.

As has been said - you can sometimes get a clicking noise if you've got a stone wedged in the tyre tread - doesn't need to be that big in my experience, a piece of gravel can do it - well OK, a big piece of gravel then!thedogsbollox wrote:Good call above on the nail. (PS: Removing a bit of gravel probably won't cost as much as fixing a CV joint - but you've probably guessed that already

Actually there's a good moral to this story .......
It's always easy to suspect the worst and overlook the simple solutions - though I guess clicking from a partially reset trip meter is not that easy to diagnose from scratch.
Thanks for sharing - food for thought!
