You mention trying to "cure" a squeaky alternator belt with wd40? It isn't meant as a cure, it' is just to see if that's what is squeaking, it should stop the squeaking temporarily, but it could mean the belts are actually worn or glazed along with the pulleys. Simply tightening them up may not be the answer, you may end up overtightening & ending up with FUBAR bearings, make sure you can twist the belt through 90 degrees.
