Head sorted??

Post by Aethelric » Thu Feb 18, 2010 7:29 pm

Its been five months since I found I had head problem. http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=34565
Since then I've been driving around as normal, quite reliably, but bloody freezing without a stat (coldest winter in years and heater about as good a candle:-({|= )
Yesterday the temperature was warm enough, almost up to 0C, to crawl underneath, put the stat back and try out the two bottles of steel seal I bought. It took all day, including running up to temp and then leaving it cool down a couple of times but it all seems to be OK now and it bled without a problem. OK I've only done 30 miles, but I had the heater on! I even had to turn it down. Bliss.

Two months on and I think the head is still OK. BUT, the water pump I fitted only 6 months ago is now leaking. Looks like a seal has gone inside, which was the reason I replaced the old one. Anyone had a new water pump go defective so quickly, and any advice on what to do to stop the next one going. I'm not sure of the brand it is, but I'll be in touch with the supplier toomorrow.

Just googled "steel seal" and "water pump". Apparently leaking water pumps after the steal seal treatment are quite common. Oh well - still cheaper than a head or head gasket change.
