Power steering top up after fitting radiator
Guys,
On saturday my radiator started to leak from the top right hand corner and started to leak coolant.
We have ordered a new radiator, however my question is the two pipes connected to the bottom of the radiator are for the power steering (have Red oil in them). Will i need to top up my power steering reservoir as i will obviously loose some of this oil when taking off the old radiator and secondly where is the power steering reservoir located.
I think that as most of my coolant has leaked out i will need to bleed the syestem of air as well.
Any advice offered greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ralph and Sara

Since you are in Glasgow send a PM to Steviebongo and ask him to have a look for you. He is a Ford/Mazda mechanic working in Glasgow for a large garage.

1) yes you will need to top up......... if your DIYing the job then a tip is to have some new jubilee clips handy and some bolts.....I plugged the hoses with suitable size bolts to minimise loss and replaced the clips to all of the Rad on reassemblyRalph and Sara wrote:

2) The reservoir is under the drivers seat......check as per members area for topping up
3) You will need to bleed your cooling system.....as per info in members area
4) as the system is apart, why not take the opportunity to change the Thermostat too....just a thought as it may save any issues in the future

I think you will find the two oil pipes that go into the radiator are for the auto gearbox cooler, not the PAS. You will need to check/top up the transmission after the rad. is fitted. Mikes comments about the thermostat make sense, no point in doing half a job IMHO.

There's a factsheet in the members area which may help you and Harry posted THIS LINK a while back which takes you through it step by step.

Gearbox & steering fluid both use the same grade DIII red oil, the steering fluid definitely ain't connected to the rad though, but the gearbox is, as Alacrity said.

I'ts under the passenger seat. The dipstick pipe is bolted to it's casing. It's a fiddly bugger to get at as the 2 bolts are screwed in from the bottom. Must have been a Friday afternoon design jobRalph and Sara wrote:Cheers Kirsty, perhaps another daft question where is the Thermostat located.
