Which antifreeze & flush?

Post by Mountain » Wed Mar 24, 2010 12:39 pm

Hi,
After my recent coolant issues, I have decided that everyone is right....better to just cut my losses and get it sorted ASAP.
-
I will be flushing the system & putting in a new thermostat and new coolant. Then doing the whole bleeding thing again.
-
So which radiator flush is the best?
Exactly what antifreeze should I buy(& where from)?
-
I'm at work so i don't have time to trawl through previous threads....I'm posting this while the boss is on a break too
-
Thanks in advance.

I can't say from the over the counter flush products but the best I have used is Forte brand coolant flush, it's trade only.......

Coolant.... yer pays yer money... There are many good ones out there but please read the Type on the label for future reference so you don't mix the coolant types....
For guidance.... Coolant has on the label....the types... G11....G12....G12+.....and there is a new G12++....
In the main most new cars are using G12+ these day......and rule of thumb.... G11 & G12 wont mix even of the colour is the same ...... G12+ will mix with both of the previous mentioned BUT the long life properties of the G12+ will be deminished.

Now.... Brands are a different matter, Many people have there preferences...so I am not going to get into the battle of mines the best, but some use Bluecol, some use Comma and in the recent thread regarding a coolant change.... Car Plan Premium Red was used....which is a 5 year longlife...
So not an absolute brand...but heed the words about the types....I hope that makes sense

Have a read of THIS POST. It'll give you an idea of which (commonly available) flush to buy and how to do the job.
If you read on down through the other posts, there's ideas on anti freeze as well. :)

Found this

Which helps explain the necessity of using the correct coolant in a Bongo engine very clearly.
