Check out the 2 Bongos breaking at the moment - I seem to rememner someone looking for a 4WD box, and both these were 2WDs.

As someone else said we don't know where you are so that would help. 80k is very low, you are unlucky, but in what way has it failed?

Indeed. Some people suffer a 'failure' that is no more than a dodgy connection from the electrical info feed from the speedo. Others have solenoid pack failure (which does not require a new box I believe). etc. etc.

So all hope MAY not yet be lost, depending on how expert the person who declared it as broken may be. We are lucky to have Alacrity on here as our own resident autobox specialist (not discounting Dandywarhol, who teaches mechanics).

Yes some of our members have had problems related to the gearbox/autobox. There are some 'search' results HERE...
HERE... and AND HERE

If you're not sure what's wrong, there's a gearbox factsheet in the members area which gives advice on the fault codes, SEE HERE.

As has been said above, boxes can often be rebuilt. But if you do actually want a 2nd hand box, a couple of members are breaking their Bongos HERE

And it's worth asking for parts/gearbox etc HERE

Right here goes, it ran in 1st ok, 2nd ok then hit third n just reved no drive what so ever.
Kick down n it wud go, obviously hitting 2nd.

My local garage who i trust, dropped the oil, n it had all types of metal in it, he said the oil was the dirtiest he'd ever seen in his life.

He put fresh oil in, but still ran exactly the same.

There's no flashing lights, Hold button works ok.

I'm in cheshire, will update in profile.

I've had a quote for £1000 to fix, yikes !!

regards
Pete

Burnt out high clutch I would think, sorry but it's rebuild time. Very unlucky at that mileage.

Thought about a 2nd hand box, but still lookin at £500 + inc getting it fitted. And then still don't know if it's been abused, or wot the internals are like.

Will have to bite the bullet.

Still lurrrrve me Bongo tho :)
