still having a problem with guage
i have done the extra earth setting as appears in a few of the posts and now rather than nothing at all - the guage is stuck on full
i assume i need to follow the wot i found epicPosted: Sat Apr 14, 2007 6:56 pm post and do the suggestions there
is it easy enough to take the unit off - i assume it is just a case of disconnect the pipes , remove the screws - pull it and have a look?
will there be much leakages from these pipes if i remove them?
sorry for the stupid question - not that grate with car mechanics but sometimes these things turn out to be a lot easier than they appear to me

you might get a couple of drips out of the pipes when you disconnect them, the sender unit is easy to remove, if your handy with a multimeter you could check the resistance of the float unit to see if thats at fault. it might be just stuck in the top position tho i doubt it.

Sounds like you may have earthed the wrong wire.
If you earth the live wire, you will get a full tank reading.
Just try connecting a wire from the seat post to a cleaned part of the top plate.
Just hold the wire on both parts ans see if the gauge reads properly.

sorry updated link instead of correct thread
ok i was 99.99% sure but pop out and checked again
it is wired as per your diagram
if i pop a rapidtest on it then the green is registering 5 to6 volts and the black is zero (need to get a new meter though - it's a bit flakey)
if i remove the extra earth and just put the original earth point on then the guage starts to read constant empty - if i reattach the earthing as per diagram then i get full reading
the pipes admittedly dont look as big and scary as i thought - i assume i'm really at stage of remove and have a look (can at least get some photo's of underneath as havent seen any yet)

I don't know if you've seen THIS FUEL GAUGE POST it may help as it describes how to test both the sender and the gauge.

yep seen a few and to be truthful - having seen the hoses in the kirsty pics - i think i will remove them anyway and have a peak.
