Engine Pressurising

Post by dammad » Sat Apr 17, 2010 3:52 pm

Hi,

We have replaced the cylinder head and gasket etc on our 1995 Bongo TD. We've got it going today which was great :) , except we seem to be getting a build up of pressure in the engine, very quickly e.g. after less than a couple of minutes :( Not wanting to damage the new head or gasket we turned the engine off again!

We have bled the heating system, but we have not had the vehicle running long enough to determine if it is overheating! The vehicle has been sat for 12 months whilst we have found time to complete the work, perhaps this might be a factor with other parts seizing/rusting etc.

Any hints/tips/observations would really be much appreciated.

Cheers

Has the cooling system been bled properly using the instructions in the Fact Sheet? If so, I'm afraid that, if your cooling system is pressurising before the engine gets hot, it sounds like the head gasket is leaking combustion gases into the coolant :(
Have the system pressure tested and a check for the exhaust gases carried out.

What do you mean by "a build up of pressure in the engine" ??
If this is in the cooling system then either try bleeding it properly or get it (by trailer) to a Bongo friendly garage.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I'm sorry for being thick here, but which fact sheet I have found 'Overheating Problems' but I'm struggling to find the 'Help me bleed my Bongo water system correctly' fact sheet. Sorry :(
