Horn Stopped Working :/

Post by bossco59 » Thu Apr 22, 2010 9:30 am

Hi, Can anyone help?? The horn has stopped working but the relay is still clicking when the button is pushed. I tried the horn on my other 97 bongo and it works fine, the problem seems to be from the horn to the relay... :(

Any idea's what could be wrong??

Loose/Broken wire?

Rusty connection?

Horn died?

You'll have to get the grille and headlight out and have a look.

<edit> that's the off side headlight.

Hi, ive checked all that, ive swapped Horn cap (air bag) , Relay and horn
all from one van to the other all work fine, theres no rust or broken wires..
Could it be a faulty earth cable??? have cleaned terminals but still no joy :(

Many thanks

As that is in effect "one of the wires" yes it could be "loose, broken or rusty".

Is your earth a separate wire or through the body and mounting bolt?

PS although the relay is working it could be the power wire from the battery that the relay connects to the supply wire to the horn that isn't connecting - I think that was what was wrong with mine.

There are 2 circuits
1 Low power = Power supply -> horn button -> relay solenoid -> earth = this is what makes the solenoid click
and
2 High power = Power supply -> relay contacts -> horn -> earth = this connects the 12v supply to the horn.

Try supplying 12v direct to the + side of the horn and check that works first then if that is OK put that 12v supply direct to the high power input to the relay and press the horn button to see if the horn works then.
