problem no 3 in 3 weeks :) eratic rpm/engine managment light

Post by tomheaney99 » Fri Apr 23, 2010 7:36 am

Hi,really appreciate the advice I've been getting so far. next issue:

On start up this morning i noticed the glowplug light stayed on for 3 seconds after start up then went off. Which i thought was odd.

driving along i noticed the RPM was eratic 2cm either way of its usual position.

10mins into drive when doin 60mph it droped into a very low gear and the glow plug light came on for 2seconds and went off. the gears then changed back to normal.

It then started doing this more and more frequently until i got to work..

When i got out i thought i could smell burning clutch but that could also be my paranoia!

I have just had the fuel injection pump changed by auto diesel place from a used bongo which was working fine before been taken off. Reason had it changed because there was air getting into the last pump and couldn't find out where from. It would then stall. this problem has been fixed now though.

So any ideas from the pro's about what this next issue is??

I have it booked into garage AGAIN on Saturday to get a new exhaust mainfold fitted as it's blowing!

Only owned the bongo 3 weeks and love the car - starting to think a bad purchase tho now :(

May be worth looking at the diagnostics fact sheet in the members area, see if you can get a fault code, even though it isn't flashing as such. colud it be an iffy connection from when the changed the fuel pump? TPS (throttle position sensor)?
Have you checked the gearbox oil level at all? ( I don't think it is that, but it's worth checking just to make sure) engine warmed up & running, range through the gears slowly (brakes on) & check the dipstick level under the drivers seat at the rear sloping backwards. Also check the colour & smell/condition of the oil, should be an orange/red colour.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Thanks Kirsty once again

If it is the TPS where is it located so can point it out to the garage (as i cant find a Bongo specialist in the area :( )

also rev sensor? where would that be?

Is it possible these could have been accidentally adjusted when the fuel injection pump was changed?

fingers crossed today that the garage finds the problem. Just wish there was a bongo guru that lived up here as the diesel garage Im using has never worked on a Bongo before. hey ho.

speed sensor - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... or#p330699

tps is under the drivers seat, top of the fuel pump, do a search on tps or throttle position sensor, factsheets will probably help too. The info is all there if you look for it
