roof wont lift, end of my tether
I am now very nearly at the point when I say enough is enough and sell my bongo it has been literally one problem after another.
we just fitted a recon turbo at the cost of 500 quid then took it for the mot as luck would have it it only failed on two tyres [buget ones £160 quid] yippee got the tax and off we go to sunny wales had a great trip and coverd bala/shell island/bodnant gardens/llandudno/and langollen in one weekend 2 nights with no real problems [apart from the exhaust smoking problem which we have had since we had it]
when we were away the roof was groaning a bit while lifting but went up ok. A couple of days ago i went out to lift the roof and a big fat nothing no beeping no movement dead!
i have only had a quick look, under the bonnet there was a 15 amp fuse on its own in a big thick cable on the right hand side at the top and is easily visable, which was blown but i changed it to a 30 amp[only one i had and it blew straight away]
like i say i havent really had much of a look yet as i dont know where to start i dont even know where the motor is that lifts the roof,i dont know where any relays fuses are and how can i get the bloody roof up to clean the rails
any help would be appreciated.
so far we have had the cylinder head done, valve seals, starter motor recon turbo, refubished injectors not to mention a full alloy wheel refurb and umpteen little jobs will it ever end?
I payed 4k for the van which is in really tidy condition spent about 1.5/2 grand on it thats without the trailer, awning, bike rack and accesorys its comming to the point where i am thinking if i could get 5500 for it it would go!but i would prefer to keep it as we still love it ,for how much longer i dont know!

Bum!!
Its about time you had some better luck matey.
Short term - Mike is having the same prob at the mo . . .
Have a flick through This to see if any obvious help is there . . . .
Chin up. It'll get sorted.

Check the switch at the back of the handbrake under the console is making proper contact, often gets damp & corrodes, quick scrape usually sorts it if it's that.

I had problems getting my roof up, completely dead, no beeps, it turned out my bongos roof won't go up unless the blowers are on
People I've spoken to have never heard of this being the case before
Hope you get it sorted

There are two fuses which might stop the motors running;

The first one is middle row 4th from left, 30 amp
The second one is middle row 2nd from left, 15 Amp

Very useful that Geoff - I'd checked one fuse but not the other - will check that tomorrow in hope
the jonesys - you're not alone - my roof is dead. No warning, it just didn't go up one day. It's disappointing but I'll get it fixed somehow, sometime. Meanwhile its still a great car. Probably best to hang on to yours as it sounds like its not far from being a good car now and you wouldn't get your dosh back easily I reckon. A good Bongo is a great motor

thanks for the replys peeps i think this is my weekend project. And mike you are right about not getting my money back and despite all the agro we have had from this money munching machine we still love it.And yes the amount of new parts it has had it must nearly be a new van.there cant possibly much more that can go wrong with it[or can there?]
