V6 Petrol Front Pads

Post by apole » Tue May 04, 2010 9:04 pm

Hi,

Since I've had new front pads fitted, I get 2 clicks pretty much every time I put on the brakes. The brakes have been checked and nothing found to be wrong but I'm thinking it must be the new pads not being quite the right size, so they are moving slightly every time the brakes get applied.

Is there a particular make of pads that is known to be good, or should I try and source some Mazda ones?

I'm also not convinced the V6 pads are exactly the same as the diesel ones.

On other cars I've had it was commonplace to upgrade the brakes using direct replacement parts from other cars. e.g VAG group cars could normally take the calipers, disks and pads from an Audi TT, taking the disks from 276mm to 312mm.

Anyone know if this is possible with the bongo, say from an RX8 being that the wheels are a direct fit so the hubs could be the same?

Thanks in advance.

the clicks you are hearing will be related to the 2 sets of stainless shims that should be fitted.2 shims per side giving 4 per wheel should be fitted.if these are missing the pads click up to the disc when peddle pressed, when the peddle is not pressed they fall back opening a` large gap, press again and click!!!

Thanks guys, very helpful.

Car is booked in for Friday for some other work so this will be checked out too.

Ordered some EBC pads too as I've used them in other cars and had no issues with those. Figured for the cost whilst it was apart it's worth putting some good ones in.

I'll keep you posted as to how I get on.

Thanks again.

I put EBC's in on my rears, fantastic :D haven't got around to the fronts yet, but they don't come with the shims & sliders, so if your's are missing you'll have to source them from Mazda? or one of the breakers?

Hi,

Had the front EBC pads fitted today. I already had the clips and covers so all good there.

Very posetive difference in the way the car slows down now, and no clicking. I've used these pads before on other cars and have to say they make a very noticable difference. Decent brakes at last and the cost was great too so no complaints there.

Unsure of hte make of the pads before as the garage just fitted them, I kept them but doubt I'll use them again even though they are only a few months old.

Still got to fit my EBC fronts, but I really noticed the difference on the rears 8) If you shop around, they aren't much (if any) more than lesser pads.

Agreed, £20 inc delivery so well priced and known brand. If you get time it's well worth fitting them based on what mine are now like.

Got to wait for a guaranteed dry day or 2 so I can get the calipers etc cleaned & painted while I'm at it
