Not holding in top gear

Post by gordie21 » Tue May 04, 2010 3:21 pm

My Bongo and I were going on holiday 2 weeks ago...only had Bongo for 6 weeks.....reached Daviot which is 2 miles out of Inverness uphill...Bongo would go into top gear but revs was like a noise of a slipping clutch would make...still in garage and they are having a look at it....but up in Inverness there is no proper mechanics know about the Bongo problems.
Can you give me some advice.?????
Gordie21.

61000 miles on the clock....also if you were in lower gear holding light used to come on...now....no holding light comes on. (extra information)

If it is an auto then you have hit the nail on the head. You have a slipping high clutch & if that is the case then I am afraid that means a rebuild (recondition - its the same thing) of the transmission & torque converter.

If you have only had the vehicle for 6 weeks then do you have a warranty on it?

Good luck.

i had problems with top not engaging once and it was caused by low oil i topped it up and in five years have never had the problem return.

I assume that you were on the A9 at Daviot. My auto Diesel Bongo has done the whole length of the A9 in drive (D) so it can't be the miss use of the gears. L and S gears on an auto Bongo are for tackling much steeper gradients.

did you check the oil level when the oil was warm and the engine running, with the box in D if you just checked it not running and cold you get an incorrect level.
