Another Oil Question and a very hot interior.

Post by Jacobus » Wed May 05, 2010 4:57 pm

Many modern diesel engines come with the warning that the oil should be checked when engine is warm, ie. 5 mins after stopping engine. Does this apply to a 1995 engine or should it be dipped cold ??

Secondly our Bongo spends a lot of time in Portugal where I have found air in vehicle has been up to 37C and it is not even summer yet. I am thinking of fitting a small caravan pop up skylight in the lifting roof which I could leave open so in theory the hot air would escape to the outside. Of course I would have to leave the trap door open. Anybody got a better idea or thoughts on this would be much appreciated :?: :?: ....Jacobus

Always dip mine cold.
As for air flow, leave the side windows open? close the sliding hatch on the skylight to stop the sunlight getting in & tint your windows. I usually stick my silver screens in if I'm parking up in hot countries as well.

I do the same as Kirsty - cold oil :D
Regarding skylight, it looks as if it's not as easy as it sounds - see this very recent thread http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... ht#p407830

That's assuming you have a factory AFT & not an aftermarket, easier to fit an opening skylight on an aftermarket one.
