Fuel gauge not Reading accurately

Post by Dan T » Sat May 08, 2010 2:57 pm

Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere, in a rush and haven't got time to search the forums... Our fuel guage has stopped reading properly. When we fill up, the indicator only goes up to 3/4 but used to show correctly as full. The indicator drops as fuel is used, but again on fill up this morning only went up to just under 3/4, despite overflowing as we filled up.

Going away tomorrow so wondered if there any quick fixes?

Any help greatly appreciated!!!!!

Yup its almost certainly the standard problem of corrosion on the earth contacts at the top of the sender unit. Factsheet here. Plenty of references and pictures to guide you in the forum as well.

Finally got round to pulling the carpet up today after driving to Wales and Cornwall with unreliable fuel gauge... Cleaned contacts and Followed fact sheet, all appears ok now [-o<
While I had the kitchen unit out I thought I'd have a go at getting the rear cigarette socket to work, and that's definitely now working :D
All in all, not a bad afternoon's work!
Couldn't have done it without all the help in the forum, so thank you all!!
