my bongo beeps at me when I put the key in the ignition
I cant start my bongo. I've checked the battery which is fine. When I put key in ignition a beeping noise starts (this hasnt always happened) and the engine wont turn over. Any thoughts on the reason why would be appreciated.

Not normal Archie, do you have an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser fitted?

Probably a stupid suggestion but it's not in reverse is it? That'll cause a beep and the engine won't turn over.

sounds to me as if you have the same alarm system that i have, (its called a viper )
start procedure is :-
1) gear in park (P)
2) foot on brake
3) use key fob to lock doors
4) use key fob to unlock doors
5) put key in lock (you have 30 seconds to put the key in and start engine , or do 1 to 6 again)
6) turn key to just before engaging the starter motor ,wait for yellow heater light to go out
7) when light out turn key to run starter motor.
sounds alot to do ,but you quickly get used to it, and after all it is really tight anti theft !!!!
the viper also has other features which i would rather not go into on a forum !!! security reasons

I thought that John & it is a half sensible point but you can't get the key out if its left in P, on mine at least, so unlikely to be the prob . . . .

Re: my bongo beeps at me when I put the key in the ignition
When the key is in the ignition, do the lights on the dash (heater coil warning etc) light up?
If yes, after waiting for the heater coil light to go out, what happens when you turn the key to "start"?
a. Engine turns over, but refuses to start
b. A "click" is heard, and the panel lights go very dim
c. Nothing, lights stay bright.
Where abouts are you? I'd offer to call over if you're anywhere near.

Re: my bongo beeps at me when I put the key in the ignition
Mine did that and I could not work it out until I realised the small fob that de activates the immobiliser had fallen off the key ring, I know it sounds daft but could it be this.
Re: my bongo beeps at me when I put the key in the ignition
If you put the key in the ignition with the driver's door open, it will beep.
This is a warning to remove the keys when the driver gets out.
The symptons would suggest that the door switch is not working as it should.

Re: my bongo beeps at me when I put the key in the ignition
I don't think the beeping is related, as you say, PatnBen, maybe it's just the door open.
Dave, I don't think there's an alarm/immobiliser fitted, so I'm thinking along the lines of a bad connection to the starter motor/duff starter motor, or the sensors that only let it start with foot on brake etc.

Re: my bongo beeps at me when I put the key in the ignition
How did you check the battery.
Either a battery problem or a blown fuse.
No dash lights - no power-battery flat or fuse blown or dodgy connection.
Immobiliser fitted and it has just kicked in and you never knew it had one because the previous owner never told you about it and never said it had one.
I have heard of the above happening.
Ok Ok it was me.

Thanks for everyones help with this
Problem is now solved
I'm embarrassed to say that the problem was a flat battery - we're new bongo owners and charged the leisure battery by mistake - you'll see us coming next time - sorry to waste peoples time
