Radio stopped working, Help??

Post by dext924 » Fri May 14, 2010 12:13 pm

OK, so I did the right thing and got rid of that built in screen they all come with after getting myself a cubby box. I have just had a new radio put in when I bought it, and it has worked ok. I took the radio out and disconnected the only 2 plugs it had. A bit of swearing later, and the TV screen came out. (As far as I now, this had no power going to it as it never switched on or had a power light. I had to cut two cables off the back, as sealed them up with up with some tape.
Now the radio wont come on!
Have I blown a fuse, and if so, which one? I have no idea which fuse is for what, so if anyone has a diagram or a system as to what goes where, that would be great.

Any and all help needed with this please, as I am now scratching my head [-o<

Thanks

Thanks, got the thing working again, how and why I cant tell you. One minute it was blank, now all is good. However, the ariel is not working!! It wont pick up any stations when scanning.

This will probably prompt me in to getting a new ariel, as the original one looks as though it has been mended before.

Any suggestions for a replacement?

Thanks

You should make sure that you have a good ground wire between the radio chassis and the vehicle body, otherwise you could be grounding the radio through the aerial which can cause lots of problems.

Ok, so I bought a new aerial, and still no radio stations!!

What am I doing wrong?

Grounding the radio case was mentioned, but it wasn't grounded before, unless I pulled the wire off when taking it out. Will this cause the radio not to tune? Does the aerial need grounding? I bought one of those that go on the windscreen, and it does appear to have a grounding wire, but where can I ground it to just above the mirror? can I tap in to the light there?

Ask a silly question but how and where are you plugging the aerial in to the radio?

Plugging it in to the aerial socket the old one came out of.
I have since found out that it may be the aerial itself needs grounding. When I took the old Jap screen out, I appear to have unearthed the old radio, and this new one needs earthing, so I will try that and see where we go from there

OK, its just that there are two types of aerial plug in use in cars and the smaller type won't actually make contact when used in the more common type.
If you have power working to the radio, then other than making sure that the case also has an earth there isn't anything else you can do. The original connections have three ground wires available;

They are all located in the lower right corner and one of them should be connected to Pin 8 of the ISO A connector.
