Foglamps should be wired to come on when you use your dipped headlights - Spotlamps should be wired to come on with the mainbeam
I've always believed that to be the case, and I'm sure I've had cars in the past which would switch off the fogs when you switched on main beam (makes sense really, if used properly - in fog).

However, I have just wired up my fogs and followed Geoff's BWM wiring manuals to follow the OEM layout as closely as possible - and the fogs are actually wired to operate with the sidelights (and a separate switch of course). So, if you are in fog and switch on your main beams, the fogs stay on. No use in fog, but handy when you are using them as "ditch & pothole finders"

If you are feeling flush, and are planning to do any serious amount of cutting wood/metal/plastic or sanding jobs, then you could try one of these.

A bit extravagant to just cut out a couple of foglight blanks, but it's an incredibly versatile tool - about half of the cutting on my conversion has been done with one of these.

bobngo wrote:front and rear fog lights are only supposed IN FOG, strictly speaking they should not be used at other times, therefore they must be wired in with a independent switch

if they come on with other lights = MOT failure, unless you,re lucky and they decide not to notice
Hi bobngo,

I think that you will find that the front fog lights are not part of the MOT test. :)

Thanks for all advice so far, apparently the blank's are only held in place by what they call string's (thanks Bell Hill) so with junior hacksaw they should be out in no time [-o< [-o< . So come saturday I hope to fit my new toy's. :D :D
