sliding door won't open: help!!!

Post by hlore » Thu May 20, 2010 9:09 pm

Hi there,
My sliding door lock opens up and down when I turn the key, but there is no response to the door handle and door will not open...
the automatic lock went half a year ago and I wonder if it is linked. I cannot hear any zooming noise from the magnety thing either: I am not very technical but like to have a pop before spending another fortune!
Any sound advise?
Thank you,
Hannelore

A well placed thump does the trick sometimes, there's a factsheet in the members area with other suggestions including disconnecting the battery to "reset" it. I take it the battery isn't flat?
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

To be honest, 5 minutes for two replies is a little shabby, standards must be slipping.

We'll try & do better in the future though.

Always wise to do this in a secluded area. I started thumping and kicking inside my bongo in a busy car park, there was quite a crowd when I triumphantly emerged from the side door.

It has to be a really big thump too, not a gentle knock!

Hi
AAAAhhhh...Glasshopper ...
Indeed , the Bongo Thump is an art-form only to be tried after many years studying with a Master Thwakka of the 9th Dan of Automotive Frustration
I happened to learn the technique in a roundabout way from the daughter of an old Chinese Postman I knew, and she went by the name of Mail -ling.....a very kind young lady, totally unlike her lecherous little brother, who was Wun Yung Ghit, and when it came to polite conversation between elders , Wun Yung Ghit always revealed his masterful knowledge of the ancient art of In -Yu -En -Doh...which doesn't impress me , I'm afraid to say, however, it was only the other day that I was thinking of Mail-ling, as I do every spring , as this season was much venerated by their family....it's that wonderful time when all the birds seem to sing, and known in Mail-ling's native village as the season of "Mae-Ting"...so it's highly co-incidental that It is spring once again, and I see this thread , reminding me of the technique of "Thwakk-King"...so I'll pass on this revered knowledge, as it really helped in a moment of dire need whilst my neighbour was muttering under his breath "what's that daft old mare doing to her car now"....imagine his surprise as the door popped open....
Palm of hand...thwack hard outside the car , 1/2 way down, and a bit lower on the front edge, about 4 inches in adjacent to where the door frame is on the inside
And PLEASE don't tell anyone I told you ...the Tongs are very active in these parts...particularly the "Ying " Tong
YingTongYingTongYingTongYingTong
Cheers

We get the "home brewed" stuff, and the double-distilled stuff...WOW!!!!!...they even use it as antiseptic...it's very alcoholic

I had an unresponsive sliding door (from inside) . Had to get over the fronts seats to get out and felt like one of those music hall turns where the guy folds himself up into a suitcase. Anyway turned out to be the child lock switch - must have brushed against it. Dont want to have to do that again!

If you don't use the child lock, just lever off the plastic switch bit, then you can't catch it  you can still set the mechanism as the metal part inside can be flicked up or down with a screwdriver or whatever.

Not expecting much use myself for it Kirsty so I'll follow your suggestion, I am getting too old for such contortions.
