spares kit needed light bulbs hoses etc.

Post by gasace » Tue Jun 01, 2010 12:44 pm

Hi everyone I am putting together an emergency spares kit, I have several hoses and have ordered fan and air-con belts. Can anyone help with bulb types? and if you can think of anything else, that is small enough to keep on board and may take time to get, I would be grateful. I'm thinking that unlike a car, if I am away with my bongo (camper) if it can't be fixed I loose my home as well as my car until it's back on the road.

Thanks

Bulbs for ours (1998) :

Headlights H4 (Halfords 472)
Front sidelights W5W (Halfords 501)
Front indicators PY21W (Halfords 581)
Rear indicators PY21W (Halfords 581)
Stop/Tail P21/5W (Halfords 380)
Reversing light P21W (Halfords 382)

Older ones have clear indicator bulbs so presumably the same as the reversing light

I carry a little case with spare ATF, engine oil, brake fluid & diff oil under the passy seat, jump leads, spare fuel filter, bulbs, belts, loads of mini fuses & the bigger fuses under the bonnet as well as fuses for the split charge, hose repair tape, some jubilee clips, cable ties, gaffer tape, insulation tape, tool kit, rags, spare coolant, windscreen washer fluid, tyre pump.
Make sure you check your spare tyre & if its the wheelbarrow tyre, get it changed for a proper full size spare, then at least you can carry on your journey. Full pack of factsheets printed out is a good idea, or if you're taking a laptop, download them or get the little preloaded memory stick from the club shop, At the very least have the bleeding instructions printed out.
Don't forget you yellow vests & warning triangles.

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

I like to be prepared & don't like wasting space  :P
Oooh & a towrope, make sure you've got your jack , long bar for removing the spare tyre, ratchet & THE RIGHT SIZE wheel nut spanner, I was driving around for a few months with one in the tool bag that when I checked, didn't fit the wheelnuts, I always carry one of those extending one that Lidl do aver few months for amout £3, absolutley brill, makes a good "nightstick" too if you're wildcamping or using Aires

Sounds like a good bet would be to just pay Kirsty to take you on holiday in her Bongo

You've then got all the spares, and someone who actually knows what to do with them (which I certainly wouldn't  )
