Poor starting - takes a lot of cranking - diesel flowback?

Post by Biderman » Thu Jun 03, 2010 6:57 pm

My bongo haveing always started beautifully and having been for a visit to the garage is now a bad starter.

It is definitely not glow plugs and spins over so it is not the battery or starter.

The garage suggested it was due to diesel flowing back to the tank so it was having to draw it up every time In start the car - any clues where to look to resolve the problem.

Thanks,

Steve.

Is it performing normally once it has started?

mine only starts badly when I park at my parents' place.
Park facing up slight hill.
I assume some kind of flow back.
Usually starts almost before I finish turning the key!

Never heard of a diesel and flowback.
What might be the problem is a small airleak in the system and the bongo is self bleeding at every start up.
Check the pump for leaks.
What did the garage do that made the bongo now difficult to start

check tank breather, try leaving fuel cap off for couple of days and see if it improves

I have found the problem - the seal between the banjo fitting and the fuel pump, it was allowing the diesel to flow back and air to get i so it was not pulling up the diesel so easily.

There is also a secondary problem - but that's for another post.

Thanks to all for your sugestions.

Bit odd it happened straight after visit to garage (noticed your thread about glowplugs too) - were they working anywhere near any of those areas?
