Drove off with coolant lid off !!

Post by droodle » Sat Jun 05, 2010 12:29 pm

Just been a numpty and topped up my coolant forgot to put the cap back on then drove 2 miles down the road before i saw water bubbling everywhere .. thankfully the cap was still there :)

I've put about 2 litres of water in but now the gauge is moving from 11 - 1pm which its never done before on the 3 mile drive back.

Airlock ?

Or something else ?

Thanks but i just read that prior - it may as well be in arabic .. if garages get it wrong as i've read here frequently, i have absolutely no cofidence that i would be able to do it correctly.

I know where you are coming from there. The cooling system on the bongo is a spaghetti of pipes!!

Most of the garages who get it wrong are not following the fact sheet as they think they know better [-X If you can't get to a garage experienced with Bongos, make sure that the person you use follows that fact sheet to the letter.

You would be amazed (or not) at the number of garages who get it wrong with Bongos.
Just last week I had a lady on the phone who was having overheating problems and had had her garage replace a hose.
I phoned the garage and was tolld they had bleed the system and had fitted many cylinder heads and gaskets. I asked them if they used the bleed pipe under the passenger seat...Silence from the other end.....Says it all.

Sorted it at my local bongo friendly garage .. who bled it for me and did a pressure test at the same time for £15 .. needle back sitting at 11 :)

countycars in brigton/portslade recommended .. seemed a friendly bunch.

Special thanks to the two forumites who PM'd me offering to talk me through it on the phone and the other coming over at a later date - sorry couldn't wait .. only car now.

Great forum !

Fit a low level coolant alarm, I forgot the cap and it alarmed as soon as the level started to drop.
